Project DescriptionWe worked on two different essay drafts throughout the first half of this semester. In the first essay we described an important experience, and in the second essay we created a vivid description of a person or place. Our class got into groups to give each other feedback on our drafts, and from there we chose just one of the drafts to revise.

Why do I want to show this work?
This was the most challenging assignment that I have ever worked on. Every choice that I made about the details and structure of my essay needed to be intentional. In the revision, I changed my essay a lot. When I wrote my first draft, I had the intention of simply describing a bike path that I visited often, but in the end it became an essay about economic differences and a feeling of belonging. I had to speak with my professor, Ms. Andaluz, outside of class because I was having trouble structuring my essay.
What 21st Century Skills does this project address?
I think that this assignment addresses communication skills. I had to use the writing techniques we learned in class to communicate ideas and feelings to an audience. I also needed to communicate with my professor and get peer feedback throughout the revision process to make sure that my writing was effective.
How does this project represent my current growth?
This project represents my growth in my ability to communicate with a set audience and articulate my feelings and ideas. I had to apply a lot of new techniques and principles from our class in order to make my writing more understandable and effective.
How could I improve this project?
I finished a lot of my revisions in the last moment because I got feedback from Ms. Andaluz the day before the essay was due. I wanted to finish my initial revisions before I contacted her, but I had to make a lot of changes from my first draft and the process took a lot longer than I expected. If I could redo this project I would finish my initial revision earlier, so that I would have enough time to make changes to my essay after receiving feedback (and maybe even meeting with Ms. Andaluz again before getting my final grade).
