Subject: MATH 241 (Calculus 1)

Project Description
We have 3 calculus exams this semester. The first exam covered limits and limit laws, derivatives, and differentiation rules. The test also covered some precalculus topics.
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why?
This project addresses informational skills. I had to use what I learned from the lectures and assignments to prepare for this exam. I also consulted a few other sources to gain more confidence in the topics that I was having trouble with.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why?
I got 100% on this exam. I am proud of the way that I utilized my resources to make sure that I understood all of the concepts. Since math is usually a cumulative subject, it is important to gain a good understanding of each aspect of the subject.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment?
I improved upon my information skills while studying for this exam. I first reviewed my notes from our textbook and in person lectures. Our professor provided us with the questions and answers to previous exams so that we could get an idea of what topics we be covered. I made sure that I could answer each question. Then I reviewed previous homework. Cengage has an option where you can practice different versions of the same problem. If I got stuck on a problem I would either look back to the textbook or do some research online.
What was most difficult about completing this task?
The most difficult aspect of studying for this exam was time management. I had to study for other exams as well, which were also happening in the same week. With exams coming up and having my regular homework load, it was difficult for me to make time to study.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do different?
If I could re-do this test I would start studying earlier and create a study schedule. I did most of my studying on the night before the exam. Even though I was happy with my score in the end, I do not think this is a good practice, especially as we start to cover more advanced concepts later on. In order to be as successful in my future exams, I have to set an organized study schedule.
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past?
This exam covered some topics that I learned in my pre-calculus class last semester. I also needed to use my understanding of basic algebra concepts to manipulate problems in order to make them solvable.
How can you apply this to future learning?
The topics that were covered in this exam will probably also appear in future exams. Having a good understanding of the concepts in this exam will help me understand the topics we will cover later on in the class.
